Day 09 - Back at sea for another 4 days - curry night!

Up to now, the breakfast baked beans have been different from past cruises, being a larger bean with a less sweet tomato sauce, but today, they reverted to the standard issue.  Wow!  I bet you are all so thrilled with that piece of news.  Morning trivia followed the ’Men’s Shed’ catch up, and this was run by Jamie.  A very likeable character with a great sense of humour.  Although all trivia presenters are more than acceptable, Jamie is a bit of a star, with a good stock of one liners.  Did we win?  What do you think?

We opted for lunch at about 12:30, a bit earlier than usual, but Paula didn’t feel the best and so we turned back and she crashed out for most of the rest of the day.  That meant we missed the ‘Aussie BBQ’ on deck 14, but no big deal.

Paula also missed the ukulele class but I went and the videographer was there.  He interviewed Salomon our tutor and spent some time videoing the class. (Jumping ahead a bit here, when it did appear on the TV and the Reflections DVD, they didn’t use the audio at all – but I didn’t think we were that bad.)

I sneaked out of the cabin later for a light bite, then when Paula stirred, back again to the buffet to grab her a sandwich, some melon and a couple of biscuits – which we saved in an old small sized Pringle container, which is just the right size.  Very useful to take on tour days when we may be a bit peckish.  No jelly in the dessert cabinet though. Having the desserts in the ‘Italian CafĂ©’ section, behind glass, is obviously a much healthier option than having them freely available in open cabinets.

Paula slept through the 4:15pm trivia – which we didn’t win.  I’m not sure she would have been able to increase our score of 14/20, though the team didn’t accept my suggestion that ‘Tinkle Twinkle Little Star’, (the music written by Mozart) was also the music for ‘Baa, Baa Black Sheep’…

This was our specially arranged curry night along with our adjacent table.  Dhal, white rice, saffron rice with peas, chicken curry and a spinach curry, plus raita and naan bread.  Very nice too – and even Paula managed it and felt much better by then.  The dishes weren’t that warm which was a bit of a shame as I do like my hot food hot, not lukewarm or cold, but it was certainly tasty and we did appreciate it.

We skipped the show which was Donna Campbell doing her Dolly Parton tribute act which has seen before and enjoyed.

Last week, England opted out of the EU.  This week, they were turfed out of the Soccer World Cup, by Iceland.   Paula was glued to the TV for Wimbledon, so not a bad end to the day.  Three more sea days and Wimbledon in full swing.
