Yet another hopeless night. Maybe I should read my own blogs and that should send me to sleep? At 3am, I vowed that if I was still awake at 3:30am, I’d go for a walk down to the International Café for a read of the excellent book I was part way through, ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’, but as it happened, Paula was also awake at 3:30am, so we switched on the TV, in search of something light to watch. It wasn’t too long before I found, under the family section, ‘Sean The Sheep’, made by the same group who created Wallace & Gromit. If you haven’t heard of ‘Wallace and Gromit’, then it is about time you did! We thoroughly enjoyed it and stayed awake the whole way through. That took us to about 5:20am and a little sleep, (but not from counting sheep) afterwards.
At breakfast, I felt like a soft roll, with sausage and maybe tomato and cheese, as we think they have a new cook on the scrambled eggs, as from being almost as good as they get, commercially, they are now more akin to wallpaper paste. The attendant cook seems to think that they need tamping down rather than fluffed up, so after almost each serving, he feels the need to make the dish look neat and smooths it all down again. No soft bread rolls, so I opted for a waffle instead, with maple syrup, whipped cream and a banana. That is the first waffle I have had on this cruise.
After the usual Shed, I returned to the cabin, but Paula was already there - and she stayed there through trivia. Not far behind the winners – again.
We were both feeling the need for sleep and managed a short catch up before a light lunch. I just had soup. Paula opted for nothing more than a fruit jelly, sensibly building up the food intake very slowly again, but alas, although it was formal night and a light dish of pasta, by the time we got to the theatre, Paula was off colour again. (I’d enjoyed my rack of lamb – probably the nicest I have had.) However, taking the Doctor’s advice, this time, after returning to the cabin before the show had even started, and in some discomfort, she took no medication at all, as we suspect a bit of a pendulum effect with what she has been taking. Not long after, she felt much better. Let’s hope that is it.
With a private whale watch tour tomorrow, hopefully, all will be OK and we’ll enjoy it. We are certainly looking forward to it, especially as it is a new port for us, ‘Icy Strait Point’, still in Alaska of course, but more about that tomorrow. It sounds like an interesting stop.
